Microsoft Pledges Windows XP Support Through 2014

PEOPLE this is VERY BIG NEWS!!!!
It may finally be starting to move down the availability ladder with computer manufacturers (netbooks and the like aside), but it looks like Microsoft is going to be standing by Windows XP for a good while yet, with it now pledging to support the tried and true OS through 2014. According to Microsoft senior VP Bill Veghte, that support will include security patches and "other critical updates," and he adds that "customers who still need Windows XP will be able to get it," despite plans to stop selling a retail product and stop licensing it directly to PC manufacturers after June 30th. For those keeping track, that'll mean that Microsoft will be supporting Windows XP for a full 13 years since its release -- assuming it doesn't push out that support window again when users refuse to upgrade to Windows 7, that is.

Apple's iPhone 3G to go on sale at 8:00AM on July 11th?

Don't take a vacation day just yet or anything, but early word has it that Apple's iPhone 3G will actually go on sale at 8:00AM (local time, most likely) on July 11th. If you'll recall (how could you forget, right?), the original iPhone didn't go on sale until 6:00PM on launch day, but considering that the whole checkout process will likely be a fair bit more involved this go 'round, we'd say it's a smart move to get the line rolling early.

Unbreakable Umbrella Doesn’t Feature A Twist Ending

Is it irresponsible to spend $180 on an umbrella? Normally I’d say yes, but my opinion has changed since discovering the Unbreakable Umbrella. While you might think its ‘unbreakable’ design is to prevent it from getting damaged in strong winds, it’s actually been engineered so that it can survive a good beating, if you know what I mean. (”Whacks just as strong as a steel pipe…” as the website puts it.) And because it looks like your run-of-the-mill umbrella, you won’t be questioned if you carry it through security checkpoints.
Our Unbreakable Umbrella has no unusual parts, no more metal than an average umbrella, it does not arouse suspicion, can be carried legally everywhere where any weapons are prohibited, unlike a walking stick it does not cause strange looks if carried by an able-bodied person, and it does protect from rain. Anyone who can use a stick for defense can use this umbrella.
Do you know how to swing a baseball bat? Do you know how to strike with a sturdy stick? If you do, you know all you need to know…
But if you’re still not convinced it’s worth $179.95, I’ve included a video after the jump showing the Unbreakable Umbrella going through various tests. Needless to say, you won’t ever consider watermelons to be a threat again.

Get your degree in the internet -- in less than two minutes!

Do you want to make more money? Sure, we all do! You can make more money quickly and easily by studying for a new career at home in your spare time. Get your degree in professional internet surfing from myinternetdiploma.com! It's the hot new career! And you know that "study" talk we've gone on about? Pfft. Studying is for people who actually want to learn stuff. Where's the glory in that? And spare time? That would imply that we have lives and other stuff we should be doing, and then we wouldn't really need an internet diploma. The good news is, as long as you know how to type in your email address, and are then able to log in to the aforementioned email account by using your username and password... You too can get a degree in professional internet surfing. That's not all...There are absolutely no tuition costs! Plus, putting it on your resumé is no problem. It's not a purchased degree, or an earned degree. That's right! You can use it where ever you wish because it is -- well, pretty much worthless? So, yeah. Why on earth would you want to do this? Hey, search us. It's kind of funny. Totally pointless, but funny. For about two whole minutes, you know, as long as it takes for you to fill out the forms for your degree. No, wait, and then it's fun for another two minutes, when you view your degree. Then you realize that you have a molecular biology final tomorrow and reality sets in.Why would the site owners want to do this? We imagine there is probably some harvesting of emails involved somewhere, but we're not sure. The few, the brave, the worthy DLS bloggers who have earned this prestigious honor didn't use email addresses that they check regularly. It is entirely possible that the folks behind My Internet Diploma are really into education, and want to bestow its virtue on everybody. The "No Surfer Left Behind" Act has a nice ring to it, in that case. Otherwise, make sure your spam filter is up to snuff.

Bruno Movie Gets Release Date

Yes folks, the rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen has filmed a Bruno movie are true, and not only is the movie confirmed, but we also get a release date. May 15, 2009 is the set date for the release of “Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Male”. I have no doubt that this movie is going to be just as hilarious and offensive as Borat was and I seriously can’t wait to see it. And here’s a video of my all time favorite Bruno moment to hold you over until the movie is released. Great! (Source)

The World's Priciest Burger: $185

Money can't buy you good taste but it can definitely buy you the most expensive burger in the world. Named simply, The Burger, it is selling at 95 pounds ($185) at a Burger King in the exclusive district of South Kensington on Wednesday.
The limited edition of the burger, which can be bought for two days only and has so far sold 50, is challenging the current Guinness Record for the most expensive burger, currently held by the American Double Truffle Burger which cost just 65 pounds ($127) in 1994. Mark Dowding, a chef with Burger King for the last 12 years and the creator of the burger, told Forbes.com the location had been chosen because "there are different pockets for different tastes. And we are sure this is an area of a lot of burger aficionados." And the secret to its strong taste? "Its massaged Japanese Wagyu beef," Dowding said. The burger, the size and looks of a regular whopper, is made out of ingredients from seven countries, from Japan to France. Some restaurateurs dismissed the burger, spiced with organic white wine and pink Himalayan rock salt, as a "marketing stunt" comparing it with similar products launched by department stores like Selfridges and its 85 pound sandwich and Peter Jones's 50 pound cup of coffee pre-digested by a Civet cat. But David Kisilevsky, vice president of marketing at the fast food restaurant, said "the burger is aimed at aficionados looking for the ultimate burger taste experience." All proceeds from the sale of the burger will be donated to Help a London Child charity, which helps children experiencing abuse and poverty.

Monogramouflage

The marriage of Louis Vuitton and the Japanese art hero Takashi Murakami has spawned a series of immensely successful designs, beginning with the cartoonish Multicolor Monogram in spring 2003. Now comes their latest collaboration, a camo version of the classic print, called Monogramouflage. The collection, which hits select Louis Vuitton stores already , includes luggage, small leather goods, jewelry, shoes, textiles and ready-to-wear. But, alas, no tote bags. “I’d love them to make some,” Mr. Murakami said. “I’d like to have one.” Monogramouflage Keepall duffel bag, $1,930 at Louis Vuitton.

Punisher: War Zone Trailer

Unfortunately, for the sequel, Punisher: War Zone, they replaced Thomas Jane with Ray Stevenson who looks incredibly ridiculous in that turtleneck. The flick doesn’t look too bad, but I’m not really impressed by the trailer. Punisher: War Zone hits theatres December 5th, 2008.

Jessica Alba Baby Pictures: Honor Marie Warren Photos For Sale

Despite a declaration in the Sunday edition of the New York Daily News claiming she is “unaware” of any offers from celebrity weeklies wishing to publish the first photos of her newborn daughter, Jessica Alba is now reported to be shopping a photo-op of baby Honor Marie Warren that will appear on newsstands sometime this Summer.
So in another word.. the rich gets richer. That baby is going to have a sick ass trust fund before it's 1 year old.

Oh Picasso where art thou..

Three armed robbers stole two Pablo Picasso prints from an art museum in downtown Sao Paulo on Thursday, the city's second high-profile art theft in less than a year.
The bandits also took two oil paintings by well-known Brazilian artists Emiliano Di Cavalcanti and Lasar Segall, said Carla Regina, a spokeswoman for the Pinacoteca do Estado museum.
The Picasso prints stolen were "The Painter and the Model" from 1963 and "Minotaur, Drinker and Women" from 1933, according to a statement from the Sao Paulo Secretary of State for Culture, which oversees the museum.
The prints and paintings have a combined value of $612,000, the statement and a museum official said.

Unsubsidized iPhone 3G priced at €499/€569 in Europe

Vodafone Italy has set an out-of-contract price for the iPhone 3G at 499/€569 ($773/$881) for the 8GB/16GB models, respectively. Subscription rates have not yet been announced. While steep, those prices are actually smartphone-reasonable in Italy (and around Europe) where an HTC Touch Cruise with its WiFi, tri-band HSDPA data, GPS, and touchscreen sells for €549. Capisce?

MTA Mulls Another Fare Increase

The bleak economy could force the MTA to raise fares for the second year in a row -- if the city and state do not help fill a growing budget gap. MTA officials reportedly told a State Assembly hearing yesterday that the agency needs hundreds of millions of dollars in outside help to fill its budget deficit for 2009. That deficit has grown dramatically and could now be about $500 million. The MTA had previously proposed raising fares in 2010 -- in a series of regular, moderate fare increases. But the agency says it might have to raise fares sooner, and cut services, because it is legally required to have a balanced budget. The MTA earlier this year had proposed raising the $2 base MetroCard fare by 25 cents. The agency ended up raising fares on unlimited ride MetroCards and on commuter rails. It also raised bridge and tunnel tolls back in March.

Heigl declines Emmy nom

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Katherine Heigl won't be chewing her manicure at this year's Emmy ceremony: She says she didn't seek a nomination because "Grey's Anatomy" failed to deliver the goods for an award-worthy performance.
Heigl, who was honored as best supporting actress in a drama last year for the ABC series, declined to put her name in consideration for a bid, a spokeswoman for the actress said Wednesday.

Could have seen this one coming...

Dawn soap Reader Courtney reports that Dawn containers, once a proud 740 ml, have now shrunk to a mere 650 ml—a loss of 90 ml of bleach-alternative cleanliness!
Even worse, the new containers are elongated, giving consumers the false impression that they are receiving more soap. It goes without saying that the price remains the same. Very dirty, Dawn.

Salmonella Outbreak: Which Tomatoes Are Safe?

McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Burger King, Outback Steakhouse and Taco Bell have all pulled their fresh tomatoes after 145 people have become ill with salmonellosis, including 23 hospitalizations. The illnesses have been linked to certain types of tomatoes, but not all tomatoes, so here's a helpful cheat sheet that will keep you salmonella-free:
It's OK to Eat The Following Tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes
grape tomatoes
tomatoes sold with the vine still attached
tomatoes grown at home
In addition, if you know where your tomatoes were grown, you can check this list to see if the tomatoes are associated with the outbreak. If your farmer's market sells locally grown tomatoes, for example, you'll want to check this list.
Consumers should be aware that fresh, raw tomatoes are used in salsa, salads, and other prepared foods.

The Gap Is Shrinking!

Gap's CEO Glenn Murphy said Tuesday says he plans to close some stores and shrink others in an effort to turn things around at the slumping retailer.
"We got carried away," Murphy said. "All of a sudden you have larger stores than you need. We also have a store fleet that's older than we'd like it to be."
The company will eliminate Baby Gap and Gap Kids stores and incorporate them into their adult stores, according to CNNMoney.

iPhone 3G: the details you never wanted to know

I just found an article of someone who got a hold of an internal AT&T email to store managers and it details almost every single detail of Apple’s iPhone 3G. Here’s a list of the most important/interesting points they found, followed by the entire email:

*-iPhone 3G will be activated at point of sale when the device is purchased in store.
*-Return period has been changed from 14 days to 30 days
*-$199 and $299 pricing is for new activations or qualified upgrades with a 2-year agreement
*-2G iPhone data rate plans will remain available for 2G device suntil further notice
*-The new iPhone 3G data plan is $30/month and includes unlimited data and visual voicemail
*-There is not a no commitment price. This means you can’t just walk in and bang $500 on your credit card and walk out.
*-If you are an existing iPhone customer in good standing, you will be able to extend your contract for two years when the iPhone 3G launches and get the ill-na-na $199/$299 price point. Doesn’t matter when you bought an iPhone either.
*-AT&T and Apple stores “unbrick” the iPhone 3G at time of purchase, but for some reason if that doesn’t happen, you’ll be required to use iTunes at home.
*-Pre-paid and Pick Your Plan will not be allowed on iPhone 3G
*-Device purchase limit remains at (3) per customer in AT&T stores.
*-2G iPhones to remain as demo models in AT&T stores “until further notice”.
*-AT&T stores will get rate brochures, 22 x 28 posters, and window banners
*-Launch day will mirror last year’s launch. This includes extended store hours, crowd controls, etc. Security will be provided to stores requesting armed police or guards.
*-AT&T is working with Apple to roll out GPS-enabled applications.
There you have, folks! Almost everything you wanted to know, and a lot of stuff you didn’t.

AT&T and Apple today announced that the iPhone 3G will be available in the U.S on July 11. iPhone 3G combines three products into one small, lightweight device: a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and it puts the Internet in your pocket with the best e-mail, web browsing, search and maps applications ever on a mobile phone.
The new version of the iPhone harnesses the power of AT&T’s broad and powerful 3G mobile broadband network, which offers 3G mobile phones download speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps.

iPhone 2.0 Firmware Details, Available July

iPhone firmware 2.0 was detailed in WWDC with some rumored features finally seeing the day of light. Features include:
iWork and Office document viewing
Save images from E-Mail directly to photo library
Contact Search
E-Mail/SMS Bulk Delete & Move
Scientific Calculator when switched to Landscape Mode in Calculator
Support for a TON of languages including Chinese, Japanese On top of those features, Jobs detailed enterprise support for mass distribution of apps (up to 100 authorized iPhones) and also unveiled a new push notification system for apps that would use it (such as IM clients).
Firmware 2.0 will be available for iPhone users come ‘Early July’ for free and for iPod Touch users at a reduced fee (compared to the last update) of $9.95.

iPhone 3G is finally official, starts at $199, available July 11th

It's been a long, leak-filled wait, but Apple finally took the wraps off its 3G iPhone. Thinner edges, full plastic back, flush headphone jack, and the iPhone 2.0 firmware -- Apple's taking a lot of the criticisms to heart from the first time around. Obviously 3G is at the forefront, but they're also making sure it's available all over internationally, works with enterprises, runs 3rd party apps... and does it all for cheaper. Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 -- and of course it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn't getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers. WiFi data is also worked into the mix, which should give users a pretty solid lock on where the heck they are on this planet. Unfortunately, there's no front-facing cam, which syncs with what we were hearing, but is still a little disappointing. Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 -- and the 16GB comes in white. Both pricepoints require a contract. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th. Pre-orders are available now at the Apple Store.

Apple store across the world

It started with the Australian store, but now it looks like the rest of Apple's online stores are down. What will greet us when they come back up? A 3G iPhone? New MacBook Pros? The Mac Fusion? A free pony with every purchase? Only Steve knows for sure.

Blackberry Thunder on Boy Genius Report

The BlackBerry Thunder, as it is codenamed now, will launch in Q3 of this year. It is a full touchscreen BlackBerry — no slide out keyboard — with only 4 physical keys. Those are the send / end phone keys, the BlackBerry menu key, and the back key. Here is the most interesting part, though: it will launch as a worldwide lifetime exclusive on Verizon and Vodafone! We’ve heard the unit will be a hybrid device with CDMA EV-DO Rev. C (for clarification, Rev C., known as UMB is practically dead. If the device will indeed launch with a 4G solution, our bet is on LTE), and GSM HSPA for traveling internationally. Verizon and Vodafone will have the same unit. Currently, the model number is the BlackBerry 9500, though it’s very early and that’s likely to change. This is HUGE for the Verizon lovers. For once they’ll get an exclusive device, but Verizon will have a sales quota for the device and if they don’t meet those numbers, we’ve heard the exclusivity will then dissolve and it’s over. This will be extremely interesting to see play out.

R.I.P.

Yet another one bites the dust!
The huge Virgin Megastore in NYC's Times Square is soon-to-be closing its doors.
Sad.

Australian retailers receiving 3G iPhone ahead of WWDC?

Maybe so, maybe not. According to an Australian Apple fan site, an unnamed Australian reseller was the proud recipient of the box you see above. Apple shipped the package with the following warning script:
SUBJECT TO TERMS OF NDA DO NOT OPEN UNTIL TUESDAY JUNE 10TH, 2008
Yeah, sure…you get a mysterious package from Apple 4 days before WWDC and you don’t open it. Right. The Australian site believes that the box contains a promotional iPhone intended for display immediately following Steve Jobs’ keynote next Monday. We’ll wait to call this one until the Australian reseller decides to bite the bullet and open the package on camera, but real or fake, we’re gonna see some 3G iPhone love within the week.

Krispy Kreme Gives Commuters a Free Sugar Hit

Krispy Kreme is declaring today National Doughnut Day and offering one freebie per customer at its Penn Station location (you may recall the Chelsea and Upper East Side locations closed). If you think that’s something to balk at, consider the folks in Tokyo who waited in line for an hour to get their hands on some sweet, sweet Krispy Kreme goodness. Then again, if you want to avoid such lines and celebrate National Doughnut Day in a more dignified fashion, try the Verona chocolate doughnut at Balthazar Bakery — it won’t be free, but rest assured it’s worth every penny.

Senior NYC crane inspector accused of corruption

NEW YORK - A veteran New York City crane inspector has been arrested on charges of taking thousands in dollars of bribes and falsifying reports.
James Delayo, an assistant chief inspector with the city's cranes and derricks division, is charged with collecting thousands of dollars in bribes from a crane company.
The city's Department of Investigation said Friday that Delayo tampered with licensing exams by providing the answers for crane operator exams to a crane company.
The city says Delayo's alleged conduct has nothing to do with the two crane collapses that killed nine people since March.

France Says Farewell...

PARIS — Hundreds of onlookers thronged behind barriers around the Eglise Saint-Roch here Thursday as the world of fashion bid adieu to Yves Saint Laurent.French President Nicolas Sarkozy, accompanied by First Lady Carla Bruni, decorated Saint Laurent's oak coffin with the French flag and gave Saint Laurent military honors in the late designer's capacity as a grand officer in the French Legion of Honor. When Saint Laurent's remains arrived at the 17th-century church on the Rue Saint-Honoré on the Right Bank, applause erupted from the crowd that had come to pay their respects to the celebrated couturier, who retired in 2002. Saint Laurent died of brain cancer Sunday at age 71.

Western Digital developing 20,000RPM raptor to take on SSDs?

You read that right. Bit-tech has it from "several sources close to the hard drive industry" that Western Digital is working on a 20,000RPM followup to its new 10,000RPM VelociRaptor performance champ. Same 2.5-inch format, same 3.5-inch housing only now designed to better cancel out the drives noise. The idea is to take on SSDs in terms of performance while offering substantially greater capacity as flash memory prices continue to fall. We'll just have to pretend that power consumption, vibration, and ruggedness aren't a concern.

Tom ford's provocative new ad campaign

Style provocateur tom ford has always been known for his unique artistic sensibilities. while, his 2007 perfume campaign shocked fashion followers with its over the top sexuality, the new spring/summer 2008 campaign goes even further. shot by photographer terry richardson, the new campaign features male and female models partaking in nude massages, ironing and sunbathing. beyond mere nudity, some of the photos even feature couples in the act of sex itself, as fellow models look on. the campaign is sure to raise some eyebrows and leaves you wonder how ford could possible top it.

Tom Ford 2008 Spring/Summer Collection

Designer Tom Ford's 2007 perfume campaign was marked by a sexually charged and provocative ad campaign. Carrying over into 2008, Ford's spring/summer collection has once again enlisted none other then Terry Richardson as the photographer of choice. We can't help but think that campaign direction detracts slightly from the focus on apparel.

Bape 2008 Spring/Summer Collection June Release

Bape's legacy has very much been built on the success of its t-shirt collection. From the early hand printed t-shirts to the enormous empire Nigo has developed, there still stands a strong allegiance to the brands sometimes simple logos and graphics. In this latest release set for the weekend at Bape Hong Kong, look for an assortment of tees to drop. Ranging from rather childish renditions of Baby Milo, to more iconic uses of camo, a diverse range is available starting this Saturday.

uhmmm…and who buys this?

I have nothing to say about this when I came across it tonight.....

Megan Fox Wants Sex All the Time

You probably already think that Megan Fox is one of the hottest, sexiest creatures on the planet right now, but here's a little bit of news that will melt your brain. Turns out that Megan Fox is a bit of a sexoholic. In a recent interview with FHM magazine, the Transformers hottie said she'd rather stay home and have sex than do anything else.

Final Fantasy...

The Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals isn’t just a dream matchup for David Stern and the NBA; it’s also an ideal scenario for bookmakers.
These are two of the most heavily wagered teams in the NBA to begin with. Add the gratuitous media hype that has inspired TV producers all over the country to put old Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson highlight tapes on a constant repeat, and you have the makings of a certified betting orgy.
“I’m guessing it will generate the most action since some of the Jordan/Bulls finals,” says Caesar’s Palace race and sports book manager Chuck Esposito. “I would easily put the Lakers and Celtics as one and two or one and three (most popular NBA bets), the only other teams that draw that much interest in the NBA would also be the Bulls and Knicks. The action in the finals should be unreal.”
With a Final Four type handle, it means all the conventional betting rules go out the window in this Finals. Bookmakers will be more careful with the lines they set and public money will play a much larger role in how the numbers are adjusted prior to tip-off.
It could also mean an edge for the savvy bettor.

Meet Drank, The Anti-Energy Drink

There is a new beverage gaining popularity in the South, especially Houston, called Drank. Not content with following the herd of energy drinks, Drank is the antithesis of such products, claiming to be "the anti-energy drink" whose slogan is "slow your roll." This purple carbonated beverage is infused with melatonin, valerian root and rose hips which give it a sedating effect. Details, inside...
Drank anti-energy drink finds it's roots in "purple drank," a slang term for a concoction popularized in the South by the hip-hop community, according to Wikipedia. Purple drank typically includes promethazine-codeine cough syrup which produces a stoned sedation. Promethazine is an antihistamine while codeine is an opiate narcotic. The syrup is colored purple hence "Purple drank."
However, Drank's active ingredients are all legal, and can be found at health and vitamin shops. Drank's press release says, "From design to production, every aspect of this calming drink was inspired by today’s popular hip hop artists who embrace the much sought-after hip hop lifestyle that encourages people to capture a stress-free state of mind."
If there can be a Cocaine Energy Drink with no cocaine, we suppose there can be Drank with no powerful pharmaceuticals. However, given the active ingredients, we're guessing that Drank will do little more than make you sleepy. But if taking naps is what is considered hip-hop nowadays, we're sure that Drank will be a runaway success.

Also, how do you want us to write this thing up? We usually do the latest updates at the bottom (so it reads like anything else -- top to bottom); at Macworld we polled and did newest updates at the top, and a lot of people told us afterward that they preferred it the old way. So, what say you?

12 Things You Don't Know About Women: Dana Delany

Published in Nov. 2006 I believe its time to remember if you don't what this woman has to say:

1. A private plane will not make up for the fact that you have bad breath.
2. You know that one time you let your gay friend blow you? Tell your shrink, not us.
3. Text messaging is for children and people who are having affairs. Don't be either.
4. If you just listen and let her cry, it will lead to deep, wet, soulful sex. If you like that kind of thing.
5. Never wear cologne. We love a clean smell. Plus, it interferes with the Cheval Blanc '64.
6. We like younger men for the same reasons you like younger women: stamina and skin.
7. There are two spots on women that need to be touched more: the back of the neck and the lower back. Fireworks.
8. There's something about a man who is a good driver: calm, good reflexes, knows where he's going, gets in and out of situations gracefully, knows when to speed up and slow down. Invariably, he's good in bed. Does this mean the Teamsters are great lovers? Hmm . . . note to self.
9. You know that thing about men being hunters? We don't buy that as an excuse to screw around.
10. Never send red roses. That's such a cliché. A simple wildflower will get you where you want to be.
11. Don't try to figure us out. We don't even understand ourselves. Just think of us as a complex carbohydrate that's good for you.
12. We need you. Because a vibrating piece of plastic can't kiss.

And the Winner is ......

This would really freak me out when if I was to pass them by in the streets of New York..

Verizon gets official with $28 billion Alltel acquisition

It looks like those talks between Verizon and Alltel were pretty deep after all, as the two companies have just come out and made the acquisition official. According to the official announcement, the aggregate value of the transaction is $28.1 billion, and the two companies are aiming to have it completed by the end of the year -- assuming all the necessary regulatory approvals come through. For its part, Verizon is of course boasting that this is a win for customers all around, saying that the merger will create an "enhanced platform of network coverage, spectrum and customer care to better serve the growing needs of both Alltel and Verizon Wireless customers for reliable basic and advanced broadband wireless services." Alltel President and CEO Scott Ford also echoed that sentiment, although his role with the future company seems to be less than defined at the moment, with the official announcement only going so far as to say that he will continue in his current position as head of Alltel "until the merger is completed."
